Copernicus Project Summary and References

Since 24 January 2023 a new Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem has been launched. Copernicus project provides access to all Sentinel data with new features for visualisation and data processing.

Copernicus provide knowledge, but all start with DATA. The adopted policy under this project is based on a Full, Free and Open access to all that data. We will provide here a summary of the project and also the references to access more details about it.

Copernicus Governance

The European Commission manages the programme as manager
Technical coordination by ESA
And there is more actors like EUMESAT, ECMWF, EU agencies and Mercator Ocean.

Infraestructure

Sentinel 1A & 1B: Radar imagery, polar orbit, all weather, day and night
Sentinel 2A & 2B: High resolution optical imaging, polar orbit.
Sentinel 3A & 3B: Optical and altimetric sensors for marine and terrestrial parameters.
Sentinel 4: first launch in 2022. Atmospheric chemical monitoring
Sentinel 5p: to reduce data gaps between envisage an S-5
Sentinel 5: first launch in 2023. Atmospheric chemical monitoring in MetOp 2nsGen
